I find this cartoon offensive in many aspects. First, the “white whiner” acts totally ignorant (or doesn’t care) about the struggle of black people. Then it implies that Zimmerman was just a fellow “Innocent white guy” which is wrong on so many levels. Zimmerman has acknowledged himself as Hispanic: his mom is Latino and his dad is white. Neither is even relevant with the case. Third, the creator Matt Bors (living in Portland, OR and ties to Pittsburgh and Iowa) gentrifies white people as rednecks with a flat-top (and love of tee-shirts) that perpetuate violence against other races. He’s done this on multiple occasions http://mattbors.com/blog/2012/03/23/stand-your-ground/.
What happened was horrible and was another example of the deep racism and “crime” of living-while-black found in Sanford, Florida. http://socialistworker.org/2012/03/27/sad-history-of-sanford. Unfortunately there are cities across the US that share a similar story, but that doesn’t mean that any culture should be portrayed like the one in this political cartoon.
Fox is NOT the white entertainment channel. It’s not even entertainment.
