We should really start looking at nuclear again. They have apparently found new techniques for reusing nuclear waste and getting the amount of radioactive waste down to about 10% of what it used to be. Overall it seems to be shaping up as the best power source available. Of course, this is only true if the radioactive waste is minimized.
Apparently coal plants release more radioactive particles than a well operated nuclear plant: http://www.ornl.gov/info/ornlreview/rev
But really that just shows how much coal kinda sucks.
