Part Two Of Vote For Karlos: The Moats Plan

PART SIX: A SENIOR’S RIGHT TO CHOOSE
Next, I want to talk you about an issue where my opponent and I disagree: a senior’s right to choose.
The Baby Boomers in middle school listened to crackly videos promising moon bases by 1990. We know this did not come to pass. (The late Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich was ridiculed for even mentioning moon bases in the infamous 2012 Republican primary debates.) Many of us in middle school listened to crackling DVDs promising human immortality by 2040. We know this did not come to pass.

I am pro-choice. I believe in a senior’s basic right to choose to live longer. Yes, with the wonders of nanoscience, our fellow citizens have the ability to choose to life to once-Biblical ages. Some—like my opponent—say this is against God’s will. My opponent is pro-death. He speaks of the Malthusian invisible hand, that longer lifespans are straining our resources.
Well, my friends, the only hand I saw was Adriana’s. Adriana is a 112 years-young woman in Nevada. Adriana was teaching her great-granddaughter Maria how to knit for the first time. I’d like to see my opponent tell Adriana: No, you can’t. No, you can’t be a great-grandma. You can’t be at Maria’s first grade spelling bee.
No, you can’t have 85-year-old Bill Gates’s philanthropic ingenuity or 57-year-old Mark Zuckerberg’s technological innovation or 79-year-old President Barack Obama’s wisdom and history lessons of the days of horses and bayonets. And, of course, another 50 years of Snooki… to show our children … the dangers of tanning and guido-ism… [DELETE. You Millennials are the only age group that oddly enjoy “The Jersey Shore” anyway.]
My friends, we are a nation built on life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The right for Adriana to choose to live to see her great-granddaughter. And in the words of President Abraham Lincoln, “Surely God would not have created such a being as man, with an ability to grasp the infinite, to exist only for a day! No, no, man was made for immortality.”
PART SEVEN: THE ENERGY REVOLUTION
My friends, the Stone Age didn’t end because we ran out of stone. And the Energy Revolution will not start until we put in the energy.
We’ve heard this all before. But we have grown up on tough talk with weak results.
President George W. Bush lamented our “addiction” to oil. President Barack Obama warned us, “Anybody who tells you that we can just drill our way out of this problem does not know what they’re talking about”. And yes, Obama made good on his vow to increase auto manufacturer standards to 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, but domestic production of oil was up over 26% by the end of his first term. We heard Hillary Clinton promise to get serious about green energy in 2016, but drilling was even higher by the end of her presidency.
The U.S. was energy independent by 2030, thanks to oil shale discoveries in Montana/North Dakota’s Bakken fields and Texas’ Eagle Ford regions and heavy fracking. While this weaned America from the whims of Middle Eastern despots, it also weaned us of the need to innovate and devastated our environment.
My friends, the time for oily talk about our clean energy is over. The 20th century was a battle over red. The 21st century is a battle of “green”. But this time it is not a race outwards to the moon, but inwards to fusion power.
And I’ve gotta say, the race for commercially-available fusion power will go on whether we want to be a part of it or not. But we’re not meant to be a part of it. We’re meant to lead it!
We choose to develop fusion power. We choose to develop commercially-available fusion power in this decade and do the other things. Not because they are easy, but because they are hard!
