Sadly, drivel like “Obama’s the antichrist, y’all” and “Global warmin’ ain’t real! Summer’s just God’s favorite season!” is actually becoming mainstream in American “thought”.
Finally, the argument is gaining serious clout in the Hill (we know that because, well, Wall Street is talking about it). Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Brad Sherman have recently released legislation that would force the Treasury Department to dismantle financial institutions that threaten the stability of the economy, and while our current congress will likely remain consistent in its catatonic state it’s sadly refreshing to see a politician representing the will of his constituents.
By now, you’ve heard Elizabeth Warren cite that if minimum wage kept up with inflation, minimum wage workers would receive $22 per hour (which would do much to solve problems of poverty and so-called reliance on welfare, by the way). Here, former Labor Secretary Robert Reich makes his appeal for upping the wages of millions of workers from coast to coast.
Despite what Tea Party Republicans might have you think, a majority of Americans still believe that humans have evolved over time. It gets murkier, though, when you ask questions about our purpose and place in the universe–many of which can only be “answered” if you believe in God. This debate attempts to address that divide.
Following yet another awful oil spill courtesy of ExxonMobil, additional swaths of land are now mired in murky muck. This time, though, reporters are being blocked from the site and have been threatened with arrest if they do not leave. But yesterday one news team, JNL RadikalMedia, was able to document what they call an “Oil Lake” percolating through Arkansas’ land…as well as Exxon’s pathetic “attempts” at removing the oil via bona fide paper towels. What the fuck, indeed.
