The United States public debt is in excess of $13 trillion and continues to grow at a rate of about $5.48 billion each day by direct calculation between Jan 31,2010 and August 31,2010. Total public and private debt was $50.2 trillion at the end of the first quarter of 2010, or 3.5 times GDP.
